This task requires me to summarize my plans for continued professional development by identifying three goals using the SMART mnemonic. S-M-A-R-T represents specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time-bound.
Goal #1I will apply to the University of Southern California for the Master of Academic Medicine program for the Spring, 2020 term. In order to meet the November 1, 2019 application deadline, I will create and execute a study plan to sit for the GRE general examination over the summer, order my transcripts and request the required letters of recommendation from my program mentor, my supervisor, and the director of medical education at my institution.
Goal #2I will present a graduate medical education topic at a national conference within the year. In preparation, I will select the topic, develop a proposal that is compelling and ask a colleague to review it by March 31. This insures that I will be prepared for all the upcoming calls for speaker submissions.
Goal #3By February of 2021 I will chair the planning committee for my professional association’s annual conference to increase my team leadership and curriculum development skills and to prepare myself for greater management responsibilities. I will accomplish this through active networking and continued service on the executive steering committee for the association.
